FORD MEDIA DAY 50 MEDIA

I attended the Ford Driving Skills media day as an influencer. I was able to drive up to four different Ford cars. I had some much needed Road Skills education and a few fun activities that taught me the importance of being alert on the road. I also had the opportunity to drive a MUSTANG!

Driving a Ford:

Firstly, I’ve thought I’d be an automatic lover but when driving is so safe and smooth why do you still want to change gears! I automatically fell in love with the Kuga when I drove it because it embodies all I want in a car. Safety for my family, Sport so my husband feel comfortable driving and Height for myself so I can be on top of the traffic hahahahaha.

While I couldn’t get to drive every car the experiences were enough to change my car brand to ford! I went for a ride in the Raptor and let me tell you, I thought Ratanga was closed down because that for sure was a ride and a half. We went uphill, downhill purposefully drove in ditches and guys!!! WE WERE LAYING TO THE SIDE as if it was the daredevil at Ratanga Junction. So to all my campers and outdoors family, this is the car for you.

All I need in this life of sin. Is me and my MUSTANG haha

Vehicles:

1 x Focus
1 x Figo
1 x Raptor/Wildtrak
1 x Kugu
1 x Everest
1 x Fiesta

Sleep Suit
Drunk/Drug Goggles
Off Road / Gravel
Distracted Driving

I was not able to part take in all activities but I wanted to do the more important activates to me that I knew I could explain to others.

Let me tell you that it is truly insane on how heavy the suit is and I am not a long-distance driver but I have family that drives from Johanessburg to Cape Town, this is the reason I find it so important to stress the need to take rests along the way. If you are planning a road trip it is important to budget for the stops along the way such as staying at a B&B or guesthouse. That suit was no joke and I wouldn’t think its safe in any case.

The drunk goggles felt like the spider game at the arcade when you have to step on the button but you don’t know when it will turn red but with the goggles in it was extremely blurry and seemed further away than it was because you could see the button but it looked like there was more than one or the light would be higher with the goggles on and while we already know it’s not okay to drink and drive this activity proves that no vision is good when under the influence.

Below is what FORD planned for the MEDIA DAY.

SLEEP SUIT ACTIVITY

This is done by using the Ford sleepsuit, each person will drive a Ford vehicle over a set course (course set up with traffic cones on a tar surface). The first time is done without the suit on then the second drive is done with the sleepsuit on.

OBJECTIVE OF THE SLEEP SUIT EXERCISE:

The objective is to highlight the importance of getting enough rest the night before heading out on a long trip, if you are planning to go away in December remember to take regular breaks, as fatigue place a huge role in vehicle collisions, so rest every 200km or every 2 hours on a long trip.

TECHNOLOGY USED FOR THE SLEEP SUIT EXERCISE:

  • DRUNK /DRUG DRIVING ACTIVITY

This is done by using Drunk/Drug driving goggles each person will drive a Ford vehicle over a set course (course set up with traffic cones on a tar surface). The first time is done without the goggles on then the second drive is done with the goggles on.

OBJECTIVE OF THE DRUNK/DRUG GOGGLES:

The objective is to highlight the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs the goggles we use to simulate the effect that drinking and or drugs have on one’s vision resulting in making bad decisions and lack of control whilst driving or even performing any task, so DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.

  • SKIDPAN EXERCISE:

Two  Ford vehicles will race against each other, through an identical course in addition to this the two drivers will get asked a question before setting off at the end of the set course there will be an A and B gate that they would need park in this is based on there answer to the question either A or B.

An example of a question asked, were can you find the correct tyre pressure for your vehicle, is the answer A google or B the vehicles tyre, the correct answer is B.

OBJECTIVE OF THE SKIDPAN EXERCISE:

To reinforce safe driving tips that were shared with the media in the morning, as well as to highlight the fact that when you are under pressure in this case under the clock you might make the wrong choice in this case you might choose the incorrect answer at the end on the course and drive into gate B instead of gate A.

  • GRAVEL DRIVING/4 X 4 OFF ROAD EXERCISE:

Using Ford vehicles, the drivers will drive over a series of obstacles and sand.

OBJECTIVE OF THE GRAVEL /4 X4 OFF ROAD EXERCISE:

To highlight the fact that if you are going on holiday in December and you find yourself on a gravel road, perhaps in a game reserve you have the skill and knowledge to keep yourself and your family safe.

TECHNOLOGY USED FOR THE DRUNK/DRUG GOGGLE EXERCISE:

We will highlight the feature of the Ford vehicles e.g. descend control, the difference between high and low ratio and when to use these, adaptive cruise control, etc …

  • DISTRACTED WHILST DRIVING EXERCISE:

This is done by using the distracted glasses each person will drive a Ford vehicle over a set course (course set up with traffic cones on a tar surface). The first time is done without the glasses on then the second drive is done with the glasses on.

The day taught me so much about how it is not just you as the driver but everyone on the road that is responsible for each other if we all take the responsibility to drive better we will all do well and be safer on the road.

Now that you know FORD goes the extra mile for safety on their drivers you should book a test drive to find your next car. And the Kuga will forever be my dream car until I purchase it or it gets sponsored mmm.
